Amish Bread


To Make The Starter:

  • 2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 Pkg. active dry yeast

DAY 1:
In a glass bowl mix starter ingredients. Leave on the counter uncovered. Do not refrigerate.

DAYS 2 & 3 & 4:
Stir Well with wooden spoon

DAY 5: Stir and add

  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 cup of sugar

Now you have the feeding starter

THE Amish Bread!! Makes two loaves

  • 1 cup of the starter at room temp.
  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cup of vegetable. oil
  • 3 t vanilla

Beat all this together first.

Then put the following dry ingredients in a separate bowl and mix together and then add it to the wet ingredients above.

  • 2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 t baking powder
  • 1 1/2 t of ground cinnamon (I like to add a little nutmeg too)
  • 1 t salt

Now fold in the nuts and apples with a wooden spoon.

  • 1 cup of chopped nuts of your choice
  • 2 medium apples peeled and chopped

Grease 2 9 X 5 loaf pans well.
BAKE in over at 350 for 50 minutes. Cool in the pan for 10 additional minutes. Remove from pan.

EAT!!!!!!
